The breadth of your life's mission

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Welcome to our first week together. We begin with a reflection about the breadth of life mission.  Does life mission belong to our work life, or is it more than that? In this excerpt, David explores other possibilities of what life mission might mean.

Welcome to the caravan of remembering. A year of living dangerously is a year long offering based on the book, The Caravan of remembering that provides a sort of kindling for your body, mind, heart and soul to light up your exploration of your life's mission. I carissa. Hi James. Let's begin with our quote for this week. Savitri said it is significant that it is called a life mission. I encourage you to think of it as something that relates to your whole life. It is not just your career or a particular project. Your life mission is your spirituality, your family, your community, your service, your creativity, everything your heart is called to. Your Life Mission is everything in your life being in alignment with the reason, your scent. Life mission is something that moves with you in your life. Life mission is...

...something that moves with you in your life. It is synergistic and dances with the changes that life always brings. So, James, where does that take you? While I start with the something that relates to the whole of my life and everything my heart is called to, the intention in my heart, the choices that I make, the actions that I take based on those choices and the experiences that I have. All of that is related to my life mission. Everything, everything, everything in my life. I go to the place where it says, you know, being in alignment with the reason I was sent here. And when I begin to do the inquiry, like say, around this this scale that we have, and I go to those places of intention, choices, actions and experiences, I'm bringing my awareness, my consciousness to it. My life has been happening before this work. My life...

...was happening, you know, it was happening, life was happening, my life's experiences were happening. Now I'm bringing the question of why I'm here, like what does it call me to do and who? Who Does it call me to be or become in the doing of it, which is the aspiration of life mission, as not just a thing that I'm doing for my work, but when I bring in creativity and spirituality and the whole of my being, what is that saying to me about my reason for being, my life mission? Why is it that my life is taking this tact? Or were these experiences that I've had and when David was talking about choosing life mission first? If I don't have a clear sense of what life mission is for me at this time. Is there some way of doing within me, of noticing...

...does this intention or this choice or this action is a bringing me closer to or moving me away from and that's like a felt sense within me as I become more conscious of exploring life mission, I can hold that question and I can I can get a sense of that from myself. Does it move towards or does it move away? That's where I am at the moment with this this scale, this question. Like you, I've been reflecting on the breadth of this. I feel like in our world we're really wired to life being mission just being about work. What's my purpose that I'm going to go and do in the world for my work? And I think that's a really important part to get clear on and continue to try to articulate. And I noticed for me I really wanted to be married and I wanted a family. And why did I want this? Well, I just wanted it, you know,...

I just had a longing for this. I remember the day I was in a class with Daniel good enough for about the caravan of remembering, and he said, okay, so what is your goal for your relationship from Your Life Mission perspective? What is it? How is this in relation to your life mission? How is parenting in relation to your life mission? What is it about these experiences that's bringing me closer to why I'm here? And it was like this, this little wake up call for me that there was a deeper reason for me wanting these things, that there was something about them that is helping me become my peace in the puzzle for the whole for why I'm here. And I found it really grounding to be in that conversation because when, when I look at my life, I can feel these threads of purpose...

...moving through them and feel okay, what is it about being a mother? What is it about being a wife? What is it about being a guide? What is it about these things that speaks to why I'm here? I like that sense of something that's deeper moving and so when I go back to the thing about everything, my heart is called to. So what is it that's calling my heart? If it's my life mission that's calling my heart, there is a deeper sense of you know, I was working as a researcher, as a programmer, as a project manager, as all of those things. So what is about those occupations or that work or, like you say, about my family or your family, and about other like my spirituality. When I read about spirituality, and David was questioning what is about my spirituality? That has something to do with if I go and explore spirituality in the way that I'm attracted to or call to express it, and if I go...

...back from that and I start asking, as you're doing, why, what is? What is this say? What what is this say about my life mission? When I look at my life from that perspective, what is it telling me about that? And as the it's the breadth. It's not just my work, it's my family, but it's my creativity. What is it about my creativity that is, you know, telling me about or showing me something about why I'm here at this time? And then I look at well, what's happening at this time, and I'm here at this time, as you say, I'm a piece of the puzzle to respond to what's happening at this time. It definitely is a journey of self discovery and how we embody that and express that in the world. So true. Thanks James, thanks Chrissa. We'll see you next week. See you next week. Thank you...
